Changing temperatures inspire new flavors

Tammy Algood

Special to Nashville Tennessean

USA TODAY NETWORK - TENNESSEE

Changing temperatures are reminders that time is passing and with those subtle differences come shifts in our menu planning. Gone are the times when I embrace only cold foods to stave off the sweltering heat. Now I want something that matches my surroundings.

And it’s not just food. We are creatures of habit even when shopping for beverages to pair with those autumn delights. Automatically, we reach for the merlot, the Sangiovese or even the cider without so much as a thought.

When my friend brought me a bottle of Beachaven Sparkling Apple Wine, I was quickly snapped out of my rut. I plopped it into the fridge immediately and began dreaming of the foods I would like to enjoy with it. That bottle made in Clarksville, Tennessee, gave me the change I have been looking for and I had to have more.

I now have an inspired fall attitude. Why? Because the apple flavors of that sparkling wine mimic my shifting pace and the foods I am now craving. It literally sings with an oven roasted chicken. It elevates brioche French toast to something in the line of royalty. Crab cakes are now even more divine and a simple Brie warmed with a smear of homemade fig jam suddenly is a delicacy.

Tonight, I am making eggs Benedict and I know these two will pull out the best in each other. That’s what a perfectly paired food and wine will do … it will make you want more of both! Later in the week, I will try it with a smoked turkey breast because Thanksgiving is around the corner and I have big plans!

I hope you are inspired to venture out of your norm and pull some fall flavors into your fall. Thanks to the magic made by Wilson Cooke at Beachaven Winery, I have. (www.beachavenwinery.com)

    Renew Tees

In April of 2015 around Earth Day we began to make reusable bags out of gently used t shirts. That evolved into custom printed tee shirts on gently used tees and now new tees made from recycled polyester, organic cotton and TENCEL Modal sourced from All Made. The colors for the t shirt is linked just above.

We also have started doing DTG full color printing for the price of a 4 color design silk screening t shirt on an off white 100% organic cotton tee. We can do silk screening of an organic cotton colored tee for the same price as the tri-blend tees.

The tri-blend tee shirts retail without printing for $19.99 each. I get a discount for buying in high volume which I can pass on to you.

We can do a custom design with 24 minimum as follows:

    1 color: $11.49
    2 color: $11.99
    3 color: $12.49 (3 color 48 minimum)
    4 color: $12.99 (DTG)

Adult male sizes S-XL. Add .50 for Adult women's sizes with a v neck. Add $3 for long sleeve tees. Shipping at cost from my screen printer in Arden, NC. We have also started printing on District re-tees which are 100% made from recycled pop bottles and recycled cotton for $.50 less per tee. We can also do the District brand as a hoodie for $18.99 per sweatshirt (one color)

These are some examples of shirts we have done in Asheville. The black bear design is our most popular one. The Eat, Sleep, Read Local shirt was created to benefit the American Booksellers Association's foundation for free speech.

Price for the tees goes down in volume. If you become interested, I can quote you exactly for type of tee, type of printing, number of colors and quantity desired.

The attached are of tri-blend tee designs and District re-tee that could be adapted for you.  All three kinds of tees are particularly soft. Our tees retail for $24.95 typically and sometimes higher. Any design we create on a tee can also be created as a sticker, and bottlecap magnet.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

    Ian

Ian Rudick, owner of Come From the Heart moved to Asheville in June of 2014 (shortly after his 60th birthday) because he could. His two kids are grown, both he and his wife's parents are deceased and he can work anywhere his heart desires. He is a serial and social entrepreneur who has started and failed at more business ideas than he would care to admit. Occasionally, he has an idea that works well. Even rarer he has an idea which works well and is sustainable. He's been helping people and the planet with Come From the heart since 1994 and believes in business as a means for doing good.
